The information compiled in this book was produced during the presentations presented in the course "Fortalecimiento del Sistema de Producción del Cultivo de Alfalfa en Mexicali, Baja California", carried out during the months of October 2013 to June 2014. The event was sponsored by Sagarpa, Sefoa B.C., Sistema Producto Alfalfa and the Institute of Agricultural Sciences of the Autonomous University of Baja California. The topics included in this book attempt to cover all aspects related to alfalfa crop production, including: Alfalfa crop production in northwestern Mexico, Integrated weed management, Principles of establishing a drip irrigation system in alfalfa, Chemical and biological management, and Control of diseases, additionally, The study and determination of forage quality parameters. National and international specialists participated with enthusiasm and with the aim that the research work and field experiences can be for the producer and can be used for the benefit of efficient and sustainable agriculture. The event was attended by professionals and producers from the Mexicali Valley and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora. The Coordinator and editor of this document hopes that this information can be of usefull. I am infinitely grateful with each author of each chapter, who dedicated part of their time to writing down their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations.
